There are new global specs and standards for payment processing which will be officially mandated on October 1, 2015. Most European countries have had EMV in effect for years, while the U.S. is among the last to comply. Credit and debit cards will now have an embedded chip, rather than the magnetic stripe. The chip offers significantly increased security. Retailers must be aware that along with these changes, comes an important shift in liability to the merchant in the event of a breach.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection and its federal government partners have been mandated to implement a new international trade data system: an electronic “single window system” for all cargo crossing U.S. borders.
